Juicing

When I left for my retreat on Kauai 3 weeks ago I was consuming around 200-300mg of caffeine a day from a variety of sources – coffee, tea, energy drinks. With 4 kids and staying up late to work and hang out with Geno ––– it really was no surprise. I was killing myself, and my patience was at an all-time low.

One of my goals for the retreat was to rest as much as possible and allow myself one cup of coffee per morning (about 80mg caffeine) and see how I felt. Take care of my mind, listen to my body, and rest when I was low on energy.

I’d never really thought about it like that before. Whenever I was tired, instead of listening (getting more sleep at night, not taking on so many extras and keeping life simple), I’d simply jolt my body with caffeine to keep it riding at the pace I wanted.

I’m proud to say that 3 weeks after I made the commitment to listen more and push less, I have completely eliminated caffeine for the purpose of ENERGY. I love the taste of coffee and some teas with caffeine, so when I choose to consume them it’s because I want to ENJOY the taste. Not because my body needs it to function.

Game changer has been juicing greens. Spinach, chard, kale, celery, lettuces, cucumber, carrot, broccoli – anything I can get my hands on, and a weee bit of citrus and mint for good measure.

Talk about energy! I make it fresh first thing in the morning and then go about my day eating and drinking as normal. The fiber keeps me incredibly satisfied so as a bonus I’m actually down a couple pounds!

As my body speaks, I promise to continue to listen. I’m learning and having grace for myself when I slip – but I’m so proud of the effort. 2019 really has been a journey.
